Olympic Discovery Trail
One of the most incredible discoveries I had in Washington was the Olympic Discovery Trail. I had the opportunity of walking a few different portions of this trail with Dave and his Malamute companion, Shadow. Included with these dog-walking hikes, was being witness to the many different and extremely friendly people also utilizing this multi-use trail. The Olympic Discovery Trail spans around 140 miles between Port Townsend and La Push Washington. 80 miles of the trail is completed with the additional miles under construction.

The Olympic Discovery Trail was the brainchild of three area cyclists who formed the Peninsula Trails Coalition for the purpose of developing a trail across a derelict railroad grade. When walking or biking this trail you can see the segments of the railroad and I hope that anyone near this path will use their own exploratory skills and experience the joy of meandering the many different magical areas of the Olympic Discovery Trail. – dbA

Session Number Two and Three, Session number two is the fan I use for smudging and during Reiki sessions. I made it with feathers I found or was given. Thank you Russ for being part of this sacred bundle. Russ and I became Reiki Masters together. He has walked on now, but is with me each time I use this mystic feather fan. The small people honor all my friends and family that have walked on and are not here but are still with me. Session number three is a badger scull that sits at my altar, a butterfly and some owl feathers. This is paying homage to spirit animals. Session number four is on the way.  Each item that is added will be connected to the different aspects of my higher self. Thanks to Joe Chandler for helping me reach this mystical quest of documentation.
If you would like to offer your skin as a canvas to an amazing artist, I highly recommend giving Joe a call and booking a session. Working with Joe is an amazing collaboration and I should also add he has a very soft touch, a good feature for a tattoo artist. Contact Joe through Facebook or call 307-941-2423

Living in Your Own Home
It is constantly being expressed that humanity is moving towards a higher realm of awareness and civilization is resonating while aligning with a type of pseudo universal law. During all of these accusations, I continue to look and see the devastation that we as humans continually inject on all things and I see little or no realm of awareness at all. I see massive greed, hate and anger with very little care for freely living life with kindness and compassion.
Amid this view, I am feeling pushed to walk alone as I fear the situation of who we are all being told we are, we will become. The words that are being spoken, the words that you constantly listen too, become the dwelling that you reside in. I choose to stop and no longer listen while I exist in in my own home. A place where there is no judgment, A dwelling where kindness and compassion are not just fleeting guests, but rather full time residents. – dbA

The Crowd
When I started to follow my soul I started to loose the crowd. The crowd did not understand the process of being who you are, without waiting for the approval of the crowd to performing the next fashionable and uniform step.

IMG_4738We The People

We The People – have not and are not meant, to live in the course and style that our society is corrupting us to live. This contrary path will only lead to the all-inclusive degradation of freedom and self.
We The People – are meant to thrive in communities that care, are filled with people who love and have compassion, not greed and judgment, which is being fueled by the constant need for expansion and advancement.
We The People – must find calmness and coexist with each other and nature. We must be a part of nature, drink its fueling energy and honor our Mother Earth, while caring for it above all things. This is our natural environment and on all levels are sustaining life source.
We The People – need to live with openness and a spirit that is free and curtailed by nothing. Create and embrace art and enjoy it. Grow your own food and eat it. All of us must stop destroying our environment and pickup all of the debris left behind. See the beauty that is around you and inhale it. There is no reason to workday and night in pursuit of a false happiness until death is the final act of your compensation. This is nothing but a symptom from the forced consciousness of modern society. Know that happiness is nothing but an emotion. What we must strive for, each and everyday is to live and reach the total and complete joy in just being.

I Keep My Head in the Clouds

To be in recipient of, “having your head in the clouds,” broadcasts you are not paying much attention to what is happening around you. Your attention is deep within your own thoughts, or their head is filled with unrealistic ideas. When you are described as having your “head in the clouds,” it usually means that you are prone to acting or thinking unrealistically. This description can be used to indicate both behavior and thought.
So yes, I have “My Head In The Clouds.” It is my comprehensive rebellion to not remain within the evils and greed that is circumnavigating the globe. I will not let the global societies desire to numb me as a way to achieve more and to let more of the unspeakable speak. To do this I turn my back to them and put my head into the clouds. I do this, I rebel because I feel, and what I feel hurts. So with calmness, while my head is in the clouds, my retaliation is to look away from the atrocities as I offer my hands for compassionate healing and preservation.

IMG_4886Brainwashed to Swallow

Let it be known, I am neither Republican nor Democrat. I must have a balance with self, so I avoid the constant white noise, delusion and misunderstanding that both parties constantly communicate. I am just a small town boy, though seldom have chosen wisely, knows the difference between right and wrong.

I find it disgustingly insulting that everyone is overly analyzing and fear common courtesy. Repulsively today it seems as if being American means overlooking someone in need, thinking with a closed mind, tossing individuals out of the window, or under a bus, while you stream sexual innuendoes towards your cousin. When these sadistic situations are inhaled and regurgitated, then to reappear in your mouth. You are brainwashed to swallow and are told you must swallow to make America great again

America, where greed has become commonplace, while throat punching compassion to watch it quiver in the charred and cauterized filth of advancement, profitability and progress. The real sins and atrocities slither by as misconduct and the petty misdemeanors are attached to you for eternity as you are publicly hung to decompose from a center pole. That is until someone else has the misfortune of public ridicule to unwillingly pilfer your unsolicited limelight. – dbA

When you completely find yourself, your true self, the one that had been placed behind the barriers and blockades erected by the manipulation of what is being deemed, “should be,” you will find a freedom that is intoxicating. The naysayers will stand and look bewildered and scoff in disbelief, or perhaps they turn and run in fear.

SpokenWord
Mans Gift
There is no logic in this story,
but the sensations are so precisely real,
that life seems to creep in.
I can feel my existence
drenched with heavy industrial oil,
as it routes its way down the who,
of who I am.

My eyelids are heavy and tired
as it drizzles into my eyes.
It is slowing moving down my back,
diverted and dripping from my elbows,
though it never splatters
on the gravel at my feet.

The aftermath of this degradation
is hidden from seemingly inquisitive eyes.
There are no oily stains to witness
for people holding doves;
the ones say they care.
There is no reason to feel
the claustrophobic suffocation
of what is being squeezed from my lungs.

I look into each of the four directions
seeing nothing but beauty emerge from every angle,
but the feeling of euphoria has been lost.
There is only this dripping, thick oil,
and the smell of sickening pungent waste.

All I can do is watch this dead deer
hanging from the fence,
a dissipating monument
of the horrific death that man gifts the planet,
a gift that materialized so quickly,
leaving us with nothing but empty tears,
that no longer know to fall.

That was Mans Gift a poem from my next Chap Book. Morning Sex and Pancakes

In the quiet moments of self allow yourself to know and feel gratitude. Hold a fragment of this moment, now, and give thanks. This is an acknowledgment of the mighty distance that you have come and what you have achieved. Give yourself this uninterrupted time of appreciation with no concern or worry what may manifest in the future.

Strolling Around Sequim, Washington

To say Sequim, Washington is a hidden gem is as elusive as the title of the town itself. It was once believed Sequim meant, “quite waters,” but was later discovered by a tribal linguist to be wrong.
Timothy Montler, an expert in the study of dying languages has studied the Klallam language and interviewed elders. He determined the correct translation is, “place for going to shoot,” a reference to the Sequim-Dungeness Valley’s once-great elk and waterfowl hunting.
IMG_4344Sequim is located along the Dungeness River near the base of the Olympic Mountains. It is in the rain shadow and receives on average less than 16 inches of rain per year, which is much less then the surrounding area. This unique climate aids in making Sequim, “The Lavender Capital of North America”, rivaled only by France.
IMG_4402   This area of Washington seemed to have everything from mountains, elk and timber to, orcas, oceans and oysters. Peruse these few images and you to will see why this is a must see and a fantastic place to return to. – dbA

The Chool Cast

Cover_Episode_12

I have a new episode of the Chool Cast out and in it is a,
Conversation With Someone You Should Know
This dialogue exchange was a fun! I was able to be witness to Zahira and the Rising Buffalo Tribe and to say I was moved with their performance would be a great loss of emotions. When I got to meet Zahira and invite her to the Chool Bus for a conversation, well we clicked. The rest was magic. She not only is a light worker and humanitarian she graces the realm of sound with her voice. Zahira is definitely, Someone You Should Know. Even with hearing her angelic voice, being in her presence was dancing in the realm of white light. I hope you felt the real compassion as I did. Find her on line and treat yourself to some bliss.

Mother American Night – My Life in Crazy Times
By John Perry Barlow
IMG_4699I finally acquired John Perry’s book, Mother American Night and I have to say it was a fantastic read. Perhaps because he was a good friend and I knew some of the stories, or that he was a neighbor and one of the first like-minded oddities I met when I ventured into Wyoming. Whatever the many reasons were, I enjoy turning the pages of this book. John wrote with an openness and honesty that parallels free writers of thought such as, Richard Brautigan and Charles Bukowski. He spoke the truth in this book, not how people might have wanted to see it, but rather how it was. John Perry Barlow did live his life as, “An American Life Like No Other.”

Remebered

If I Am Remembered

If I am remembered after I leave this world, let me be remembered for knowing love, even when love might have been foolish. Remember that I cared without judgment and always looked at the good in a person, as I overlooked what might have not been. Remember the words that I created and shared. They were meant only to evoke thought and were never exposed to pursue a way that was not yours. I pray that the last thought remembered will be to share my beliefs that basically the heart of all people, with just a sliver of encouragement, can be good.

These pieces are from the Somniative Collection. I wanted to offer a bit of background on the name and the inspiration for the art in the Somniative Collection. I met an amazing artist, Christopher Reitmaier at an art festival. He too travels the show circuit and not only makes great art, but also lives the free vagabond lifestyle I am so attracted to. His art comes from recycled and reclaimed bits and pieces he finds on the street and in old dump sites. I was so inspired seeing his work, visiting with him and finding out that we both knew some of the same eclectic people traveling this world. I was so inspired by his work, after scrounging around old dumpsites on a ranch or two in Wyoming; I added it into my own style and ideas. The result I am very happy with and I hope you are too. The name, Somniative Collection derives from Christopher’s Instagram name and means, obsolete and relating to dreams. To you Christopher I thank you and cannot wait to see you down the road.

Searching for the Tree of Life

July 30, 2019
Chronologies, Excerpts, Fragments and Reflections!
the Artistic Journals of Dan Abernathy

IMG_4498Like all things that are not supposed to be, the Tree of Life is called a freak of nature, or some refer to it as magical. However it is described or defined it is something that isn’t supposed to happen. It isn’t natural for a tree to be alive with its roots exposed and holding the tree proudly by clinging to air. With no logical explanation for why it hasn’t toppled into the ocean this truly amazingly enchanted tree seems to be immortal.

I learned of the Tree of Life before venturing to The Pacific Northwest. I knew this area is filled with natural wonders and this fairy-tale like tree I had to see. It was calling me to come sit under its roots and for just a brief moment be totally and completely there as I quieted myself in a meditation while connecting to Mother Earth. So I went.

IMG_4509

The Tree of Life sits on the coast of the Pacific Ocean in the in the plush Olympic National Park, about an hour southwest of the Hon Rainforest. However, there is no grid coordinates, roadside signs or markings on a map to get to this amazing tree and if the truth were told, destiny guided us as we stumbled into the area where it is enchantingly tucked away on the shore.

Known for its wide trunk and towering height, The Tree of Life is a Sitka spruce, the largest type of spruce known and can be found all along the west coast.

Underneath the tangled roots of the Tree of Life is seemingly a cave with small, smooth Sellers_RS_cobble like stones carpeting the entrance. Inside is a streambed where water can flow into the cave and out towards the ocean. It’s this stream that washes the soil from underneath the roots, nourishing the tree and possibly destroying it. The Tree of Life is a phenomenon that lives beyond the parameters of any tree.

Questions have been asked many times of why, but no one really knows how it keeps on living. Perhaps as I deliberated while sitting cross-legged underneath these free and massive roots, it is an empowering symbol. The Tee of Life is giving us all a message that we also can continue to live and be free, even when so many worldly components are seemingly against us. – dbA

Shucking and Slurping at Hama Hama Oyster Farm

IMG_4544It’s not very often you’re remotely offered fresh oysters on someone’s else’s tab, but I was! When Jed Duke found out I was going to be in the Pacific Northwest he made me an offer I just could not any intelligent reason to refuse. It also didn’t take much convincing to get Dave to embark on a short road trip to the Hood Canal with the climatic destination being the Hama Hama Oyster Farm, near Lilliwaup, Washington.

IMG_4549

When we got there I found Lissa, who is generation number five of the family ran business. I have to say; she was looking at me with a bit of curiosity on her face as I boldly walked towards her with a large smile saying I had something for her. I wrapped my arms around her in a big hug and said this is from Jed and Brad! She hugged back, smiled and told me the Wyoming shadow keeps getting bigger and bigger.

Dave and I had a fantastic time as we shucked and slurped fresh oysters along with a couple IPA’s while listening to live music while a couple of bald eagles circled around the canal. The whole experience was unforgettable and the oysters were delicious. The Hama Hama Oyster Farm is an amazing happening place that should be on the list of anyone traveling through the area.

IMG_4556

Not sure how much tab you have left Jed, but thanks to you, Dave and I had a great lunch experience in this magical location you and Brad have told me so much about.

Being With Buffalo

Being alive and completely present in the moment was truly an interval of time consenting words to be unworthy. It was an incredible moment that briefly erased time from time. To quietly be, to see, hear and feel their presence was more than humbling. Reflecting on what occurred, I was completely present while being there, not only allowing me to be with glorious creatures of the earth, but also permitted me to be filled with the gratitude of being who I am and living in the ways I have chosen. – dbA

The Essential Way a Foundation For Peace

EW_Tree.jpg

Sometimes You Must Create
What You Want To Be Part Of.

I am an advocate in a spiritual quest as a Warrior of the Light. I believe in a higher source, but also believe engaging in this journey does not mean we have to take a vow of silence, or celibacy. We do not have to walk humbly with our heads down reciting quite words of scripture. Being spiritual dos not mean you have to be boringly serious. It does not mean you cannot live open and free, be child like, laugh and enjoy a glass of wine, get lost in good music or stand frozen in the majestic beauty of a heart-warming sunrise.

I am a healer, seeker of a higher consciousness and I do so in the manner of a Quasi Spiritual Warrior. I pursue this always and I will for life. I do not practice, I am. It is my mindset. It is the true Who, of Who I am.

I am a believer in these words of Gaudi, “God has no realign.”
I have no Concern what your religious beliefs are. They are yours and I respect that. I do not think there should be so many rules in religion, and a spiritual belief has no room for ego and control. I am an advocate of non-segregated religion. My spirituality, my belief in a higher Source is something that flows through me each and every day and is not restricted to a weekend workshop.

My beliefs and I believe without hesitation, is that the raising of our higher consciences is the only path to true peace. I am by no means perfect, but I try to live with Calm, Compassion and Kindness with all my interactions, and have no room for those that do not. My spiritual beliefs have simply been minimalized and even segregated from the norm, and in the simplification have been purified into the Essential Way.

Do to the fact that I have studied world religions from a very young age, finding the openness and similarities in so many and then highly Influenced in the path of spirituality from becoming a Reiki Master I developed a spiritual path of my own.

The Unalome
unalumeThe Unalome, a Hindu symbol, or Yant is a sacred geometrical design representing the path to enlightenment. The spirals are meant to symbolize the twists and turns in life, and the straight lines, the moment one reaches the place of peace and harmony. This symbol recalls Shiva´s third eye and it represents various blessings, protection, wisdom and the path to perfection.
Helping to find the Way with Calming Compassion, the Copper Unalome is created from recycling and reclaimed copper wire. Each one is twisted and formed by hand with the intent of calmness and compassion. Being created by hand, each one will have slight variations in style and uniformity. The Essential Way – A Foundation For Peace
While conveying the Seven Elements of the Essential Way
Calmness, Compassion, Kindness, Forgiveness, Gratitude, Love and Mindfulness

The Self Prophesized mission of The Essential Way – A Foundation For Peace is very simple. It is to inform and teach to all, by word and example, not just the Seven Elements of the Essential Way, but also the way of Peace and nonviolence. This is accomplished by not only with verbalization, not only with believing it, but also by living it. Just For Today, with continuation again tomorrow.

Accepting and implementing beliefs from core doctrines has simply minimalized my spiritual beliefs. In the simplification of passionate belief, founded from the core of faith, they have been sanitized into the Essential Way.

Just as the study of Zen, The Tao, The Eternal Way of Hinduism and the Way of Christ, the Essential Way is nothing more then a glimmer of direction. By no means is it the absolute. This is the way I have found to achieve a truthful path to a higher consciousness and Spirit. If something that I may offer will promote a small step for you to close the gap towards Spirit, then I will be blessed with gratitude and happiness.

The Essential Way is merely seven fundamental components that need no named religion to follow, yet if followed would eradicate negativity, hate and violence from our world and as a derivative we would become free and radiate with love. Knowing, feeling and constantly projecting Calmness, Compassion, Kindness, Forgiveness, Gratitude, Love and Mindfulness is a “Way,” that cannot be distorted by any means.

The Essential Way – A Foundation For Peace, ignited with the Seven Elements, has faithfully exposed nonviolence to everyone at home, at work, at school and to the World. We strive to increase each person’s ability to see alternate solutions to potentially violent solutions. This is accomplished, with just one person at a time. They will listen and in time, will understand and believe the way of spirit is to embrace potentially violent situations with nonviolent solutions. This is the path for Peace and the Essential Way.

The Journey towards Spirit is a personal and individual journey and what must be remembered is when anyone communicates their religious or spiritual ways; by no means is it the absolute. A spiritual path cannot be controlled with rules and laws, nor should a path be walked that is worn smooth from the complete and total ways of another. Listen carefully, discover your own truth and allow what you hear to guide you towards your own destination.

The Zen Way
The Zen Way is Calmness, being relaxed with no worries of the ways you cannot change. The Zen Way of being is a state of mind that sees things without distortion, yet not casting judgment when they are seen.

The Way of The Tao
The meaning of the Tao, the Tao Way, is untranslatable. The Tao means everything. The Tao is the flow, the way of everything. The Tao is what is being done now and what is not being done now. It is a concept of harmonious living, breathing and being.

The Eternal Way of Hinduism
Hinduism, the world’s oldest religion, has no beginning–it precedes recorded history and has no human founder. It is a mystical religion, leading the devotee to personally experience the Truth within. It is referred to as a way of life or the Eternal Way.

Hindus respect a body of texts as sacred scripture known as the Veda, a Sanskrit word meaning knowledge and draw on a common system of values known as dharma, which in a since is a code of conduct. Hindus believe in a Supreme God, whose qualities and forms are represented by the multitude of deities, which derive from him.

Hindus believe that existence is a cycle of birth, death and rebirth, governed by Karma. They believe that the soul passes through a cycle of successive lives and its next incarnation is always dependent on how the previous life was lived.

Hindus believe that no religion teaches the only way to salvation above all others, but that all genuine paths are facets of God’s Light, deserving tolerance and understanding.

The Way of Christ
The Way Of Christ is the way of love; the principal configuration of love, unconditional love embracing and transcending all that is, regardless of circumstances. Taking love, the most meaningful belief of all and with its unending way, exercising heartfelt affection and active goodwill. This purification of all that is will develop naturally with no end.

The Zen Way, The Toa Way,
The Eternal Way of Hinduism and The Way of Christ,
from these centers came the
The Essential Way

Defense of Self
When living the Essential Way, sadly, we must still protect the true person, our higher self. This is something that has always been and will be, until all can find their own path to Spirit. In the “Defense of Self ” I apply the protection adapted of; Choice & Situation

Choice and Situation
The manner of security of self that I have chosen is, Choice and Situation. I live by choice, even when choices are heavily influenced with chance. I have no control of any situation but my own. Your situation, or the influences that are in your setting are completely out of my power and jurisdiction. What I do have is choice. I can choose to be involved and subjected to the many different elements that may be included in your situation, or I can choose to turn and walk away. I do not have to be involved, even if I cannot literally leave the area, I can leave. I can retreat to my own place while circumnavigating your situation. I can travel freely here until I can literally turn and walk away. This is self-preservation and will keep us completely clear of the negativity and drama that so many have welcomed into their space of being. The lost and fearful that seem to enjoy floundering in a bog negative quagmire.

Continued
In a future blog I will go into depth about the Essential Way, The Seven Elements of the Essential Way. If each day we live by this way, there would be no need for anything else.

DerivativeBeside Living The Essential Way and my daily life of Reiki
I also meditate each morning.

As the sun rises in the East I am deep into my morning healing prayers and meditation. This is something that has truly altered my way of being to defrag my mind and give me a clean open and unobstructed path for being.

Altering Self With Simple Meditation
Continued daily meditation modifies the structure of your brain and can adjust the ways you think. It will change how you relate to yourself and to others. This modification for the greater good of all things will begin immediately with your first sitting, and then continue over time to increase, placing you on a higher level of being.

To observe the immediate effects of meditation, sit comfortable and adjust your posture so your back is straight and your head is level. Place your hands on top of your thighs with palms open and facing up. Take ten, ten-second breaths conveying all your attention to breathing. Breathe in deeply from the Universe, filling your lungs and lift your left thumb as you slowly count to ten. Now breathe out from who you are, completely empty your lungs. Now touch your index finger to your thumb as you breathe in from the Universe, hold for a slow count of ten and breathe out to completely empty your lungs. Repeat this with each remaining finger. If a thought enters your mind, at any time, acknowledge it and gently brush it aside as you return to your mind to your breath.

With the counting of ten breaths, ten times, a simple meditation is fulfilled. With the achievement of the first two breaths, you will identify a difference in your mind. This transformation that you notice immediately with the first couple breaths will be is even more pronounced if you are stressed or tense. Breathing deeply and evenly transfers you towards an all-embracing relaxation. Like all switches, the more you employ them the smoother they become and the better they will work for you. A Ten Breathe Meditation will take around two minutes or you can extend it to a five-minute mediation with 25-30 breaths.

By allowing the commitment of mediation to enter into your being each and every day, you will find your mind, you will see the source of what was and you will be able make the modifications to create a calmer mind that will bring you joy and contentment within the ultimate version of who you are.

With daily mediation a physical change to your brain structure will transpire and your outlook changes as you unintentionally begin to be present and live with the Essential Way. With emotional regulation and control the Seven Elements of Calmness, Compassion, Kindness, Forgiveness, Gratitude, Love and Mindfulness will become consistent and these natural feelings will settle into your pleasant place of being.

Living life places you in situations that detonate emotional highs and lows, but with daily meditation, it will not matter what may unfold around you, you will be able to quickly return to breath, be present where you are, and with high compassion, construct the mind and situation you choose to exist within your higher self.

Chronologies, Excerpts, Fragments and Reflections!
the Artistic Journals of Dan Abernathy

Cover_Episode_10

The Chool Cast is live and filled with life from Dan Abernathy and the Chool Bus. Poetry, music and a traveling vagabond, full of Spirituality, Reiki, Compassion, and Renaissance Type of Man that refuses to fit in. This episode was produced in Three Forks Montana in route to Washington State. I know I take the long road and as Brian Ernst remarked, “Who did you get your directions from, Me?” You can track my mind a bit in this episode and the highlight is a conversation with Brad Toft about Burning Man. He is a wondering vagabond and troubadour, a Burner and far from any mold that society has constructed for people. Enjoy this conversation with insight about attending Burning Man.

A huge Thanks to my advertising sponsors Sellers Real Estate, who has been a sponsor from the beginning and The Donators who support all my endeavors by using the Donate button on my website. signPointing the Bus north and saying goodbye to the deserts of Arizona. Everything in this state pricks, pokes, scratches or bites, but it is still an amazingly awesome place to find solitude for the winter. I’ll quote Arnold and say for sure, “I’ll be back!”

freedomDuring this time of anarchy and confusion, where we are being pushed into uniting and becoming one, in truth we are being pulled apart from who we are. We are being separated and leaving no trace of self. There are pronounced world powers that are secretly in total and complete control as they push forward with no empathy to wholly stomp out freedom and individuality leaving the dream to fall in the wake. – dbA

The Sportsman Bar – Kingman Arizona

May 6, 2019
Chronologies, Excerpts, Fragments and Reflections!
the Artistic Journals of Dan Abernathy

SB_12When passing through Kingman Arizona, on the historic Route 66, there is an incredible and historic Dive Bar that must be visited The Sportsman Bar was built in 1906 and has been serving highballs and beer over the same wooden bar since. As I sit down for my first cocktail, I wondered if perhaps Tom Joad from the Grapes of Wrath might have sit here, or at the very least John Steinbeck. Whoever it was, the wooden slab is worn smooth from the tens of thousands of people, bellying up to the bar.

Reading Trip Adviser you will see some people don’t share my enthusiasm about the Sportsman Bar, but come on people, it’s a Dive Bar. The main attraction in visiting a Dive Bar is the hardcore character of the unique establishment and even more so the bartender. You don’t venture into these dark, dingy places looking for someone to coddle your needs. If this is what you are seeking, perhaps an Applebee’s would suit you.

Dive Bars have a personality that knows their way around a bar and how to serve a stiff drink, a cold beer and will dish you some attitude if they think you are being a bit judgmental. But when you laugh and call ‘em Darling, they will usually give you a life experience that will last forever.

SB_07

This is just what I had when I wandered into the Sportsman Bar. It was dark, with no need to change the burnt-out lights bulbs, but my eyes adjust quickly and it was fantastic. There is one door in the front, one door in the back and no windows. There is crazy art and relics, especially in the bathrooms and the walls of the entire bar are holding dollar bills, a tradition that stated decades ago. Sandy was slinging drinks and gave us just what we wanted and did it all with a kind and crooked smile while answering all the questions about where I was at.

The Sportsman Bar is a must stop and see for travelers on Route 66. Like I said, it is a historic jewel for Kingman. – dbA

Yarnell, Arizona – A Traveling Treat

Yar01

Yar02Evading interstate highways and wandering on small back roads is often the best times of being on the road. On these two-lane highways you will find the treats of travel and remember why traveling is about the journey, not the destination. This road trip pictured here came alive when I went though the small town of Yernell Arizona.

Yernell is a unique community named after gold prospector Harrison Yarnell. Coming from Wickenburg, travelers gain altitude through a series of hairpin-like curves on Highway 89 as they ascend 1,300 feet in four miles into the Weaver Mountains.

This quiet town deserves time from everyone wandering down the road. Slow down and look around, hear some stories from the locals you meet and drift down some side streets. Like most small towns, Yarnell has lots of looking to see. – dbA

The Unalome

unalumeThe Unalome, a Hindu symbol, or Yant is a sacred geometrical design representing the path to enlightenment.

The Unalome is approximately 2 inches, on a 24 inch copper chain, $20. Chains are treated and will not discolor skin.
